Pro technique
How to get the best result
- Map precisely — the U-blade shows every error
A sharper stroke reveals any asymmetry. Draw an exact brow map before you open the blade.
- Near-vertical, consistent angle
Only the pin tips cut, so the angle must be consistent for the whole row to engage. An inconsistent angle leaves a partial stroke.
- Lighter hand than a curved blade
Because only the tips enter the skin, the same pressure cuts deeper. Ease off — a light pass gives a crisp, shallow stroke.
- Firm three-finger stretch
Keep the skin taut so the sharp tips glide in one clean line rather than catching.
- Read the skin after every stroke
The U-blade gives less margin. Check depth and crispness before committing to the next stroke.
FAQ
Questions artists ask us
What does 18U mean on a microblade?
18 is the number of pins and U is the blade shape — a U-blade, where the pin row is flared into a U so only the tips contact the skin. So an 18U is an eighteen-pin U-blade for manual microblading.
What is the difference between a U-blade and a curved blade?
How the pins meet the skin. A U-blade (18U) stands the pins on their tips for the sharpest, crispest cut; a curved blade (18C) engages the pins along an arc for a more forgiving stroke. U-blades cut finer but are less tolerant of technique errors.
Is the 18U good for beginners?
It is better suited to experienced artists. The sharper cut is less forgiving of an inconsistent angle or heavy hand. Most artists build their technique on the curved 18C first and add the U-blade once their strokes are consistent.
When should I use the 18U instead of the 18C?
When you want the sharpest, crispest strokes, for fine detail, or on skin where a curved blade drags or blurs — some resistant or thicker skin implants more cleanly with the tip-only cut of a U-blade.
Is the 18U for machine or manual work?
Manual microblading only. It is a hand blade, not a machine cartridge.
Is it sterile, and how do I dispose of it?
Each blade is single use and arrives individually sealed and pre-sterilised. Check the seal before opening. Dispose of used blades in an approved sharps container; in California, never in household waste.
Can I reuse a microblade?
No. Microblades are single-use sterile devices. Reuse dulls the tips, ruins the crispness a U-blade is chosen for, and is a cross-contamination hazard.
How many blades will I use per treatment?
Usually one per client per session. Replace a blade immediately if a tip bends or dulls — a compromised U-blade tears instead of cutting.
