Why 18 pins and a curve

A microblade makes a hairstroke by hand: you press a row of fine pins into the skin and draw a fine cut that pigment then settles into. Eighteen pins give the blade enough length to lay a full, natural hairstroke in one clean pass, and the curve lets the blade follow the arc of a real brow hair instead of cutting a dead-straight line. That combination is why the 18C is the default microblading blade — forgiving enough to learn on, versatile enough for most brow maps.

For shorter, finer strokes or tight detail work, drop to the 11-pin 11C. For the sharpest, crispest strokes on demanding skin, move to the U-blade 18U, where only the pin tips contact the skin.

Where the 18C sits in the microblade range

Working with it

Microblading is all in the angle and the pressure. Hold the blade close to 90 degrees to the skin so every pin engages evenly, and draw each stroke in one smooth, light pass — the cut should be shallow, just into the upper dermis, not deep. Stretch the skin taut with three fingers so the blade glides instead of dragging. One pass per stroke, then check the depth before you commit to the next. Follow your pre-drawn brow map; a hand tool is only as accurate as the map underneath it.

Hygiene and disposal

Every blade is a single-use, individually sealed, pre-sterilised unit. Check the seal and the blade tips before you open it; if the blister is compromised or a pin is bent, discard it. A microblade is a sharp — dispose of used blades in an approved sharps container in line with your state's requirements. In California that means a licensed sharps waste container, never household waste.
