Why one needle at the heaviest gauge

A single needle gives you the narrowest possible channel, so the stroke heals as a true hair rather than a smudge. The trade-off with most 1RL cartridges is that one thin needle deposits very little pigment, so you end up passing two or three times — and every pass adds trauma and blur.

The 1201RL answers that with gauge. At 0.35 mm it is the thickest single needle in the range, so it holds more pigment per stroke than a finer 1RL and lays a complete, saturated line in fewer passes. You keep the crispness of a single needle and lose most of the fade that finer single needles are prone to.

Reach for a finer single needle — the 0601RL at 0.20 mm or the 0401RL at 0.16 mm — when the skin is thin or mature and a 0.35 mm stroke would read too heavy. Reach for the 1201RL when the skin is resilient and the brow needs a stroke with presence that will still be there in two years.

Where the 1201RL sits in the liner family

Every Elite liner shares the same body and membrane; what changes is the needle count and the gauge.

• 1RL (1201RL, 0601RL, 0501RL, 0401RL) — single needle. The finest possible line. The 1201RL is the heaviest at 0.35 mm, so it lays the boldest single stroke of the four.
• 3RL (1003RL, 0603RL, 0503RL, 0403RL) — three needles. Faster hairstroke and lining work; the cluster completes a stroke in one pass.
• 5RL and 9RL (1005RL, 1009RL) — five and nine needles for coverage and shading, too wide for individual hairstrokes.

If you want the same single-needle precision but a softer, lighter stroke on delicate skin, drop the gauge to the 0601RL or 0401RL. If you want to work faster and can accept a fractionally wider stroke, step up to the three-needle 1003RL.

Working with it

The 1201RL rewards patience. One needle means one stroke's worth of pigment at a time, so map the whole brow before you open the cartridge and commit to each stroke. Hold it at roughly 45 degrees — upright, a single needle punches a dotted line rather than drawing a continuous hair. Stretch the skin in three directions on every stroke; a single needle skips on loose skin more readily than a cluster does. Wipe along the stroke, never across it, so you do not lift the pigment straight back out of the channel.

Hygiene and disposal

Every cartridge is a single-use, individually sealed unit with a filtered back-flow membrane that keeps pigment and fluid out of the machine grip. Check the seal before you open it; if the blister is compromised, discard it. Dispose of used cartridges in a sharps container in line with your state's requirements — in California that means an approved sharps waste container, never household waste.
