Why the finest gauge

At 0.16 mm the three needles lay the lightest, thinnest stroke of any 3RL. On delicate skin that is exactly what you want — a heavier gauge can bruise thin skin, spread as it heals, and leave a stroke that looks drawn rather than natural. The 0403RL keeps the stroke fine and believable even on skin that does not hold pigment well.

Three needles keep it forgiving: the cluster still completes a stroke in one pass, so you are not passing repeatedly over fragile skin. The trade-off is presence — a 0.16 mm stroke is softer and may need a touch-up to reach full density on resilient skin. On that kind of skin, step up to the 0603RL or 1003RL.

Where the 0403RL sits in the liner family

All Elite liners share the same body and membrane; count and gauge decide the job.

• 1RL (0401RL) — single needle at the same 0.16 mm gauge, the finest single stroke Elite makes.

For individual detail strokes at this gauge, use the single-needle 0401RL. When the skin is more resilient and the brow needs more pigment, move up to the 0603RL or the 1003RL.

Working with it

The 0403RL is the most delicate liner in the range and punishes a heavy hand. Draw at a shallow angle, keep the stretch firm and even, and let the needle do the work — pressing a 0.16 mm liner into thin skin causes exactly the trauma you chose this gauge to avoid. One light pass, read the skin, and touch up at the follow-up rather than forcing density on day one. Wipe along the stroke.

Hygiene and disposal

Every cartridge is a single-use, individually sealed unit with a filtered back-flow membrane that keeps pigment and fluid out of the machine grip. Check the seal before you open it; if the blister is compromised, discard it. Dispose of used cartridges in a sharps container in line with your state's requirements — in California that means an approved sharps waste container, never household waste.
